Leaders of the iconic bookstore said it would open a 30,000-square-foot space in the Prudential Center in Boston next spring.
The extra floor space will provide space for things for things they can't at the Cambridge location. That includes a large section dedicated to children's literature and an event space where the store can showcase art, host speakers, and teach classes, a press release said.
Owners will release more information on the project in the coming months.
"This is an ambitious project, and we think we’ve established an excellent team to bring it to fruition," said Jeff Mayersohn, co-owner of Harvard Book Store. "We envision it as an important addition to the literary life in the city and a welcoming space serving the many communities of Boston."
The Prudential Center location is a big step for the Harvard Book Store, but store owners stressed that the iconic store at 1256 Massachusetts Ave in Cambridge, which opened in 1932, is still the flagship. They also said they have plans to renovate that location in the coming months.
